Daniil Kvyat gets a 10-second time penalty for flipping Stroll.
Sainz is in a hurry this evening, as he pulls off a daring inside lunge at Turn 1 to take seventh place from his future team-mate Leclerc. Things get worse for Leclerc as he gets a snap of oversteer trying to battle back and that invites Ricciardo into the fight.
"My car is jumping around like a kangaroo, I swear," says Max "Joey" Verstappen. He's hopping around 1.6s behind Hamilton at this stage.
Albon's escaped the early clutches of Norris, and has Perez in front of him now. With Bottas well down the order, a podium is within reach.
The Stroll vs Kvyat clash which triggered the earlier safety car has been placed under investigation.
Sainz on the softs is on the charge as he gets ahead of Ricciardo to take eighth place. Russell also having a stormer as he moves ahead of Raikkonen at Turn 1 to take 12th place.
Leclerc has a tilt at passing Ocon, but the Frenchman guns the accelerator and holds sixth coming out of turn 3. Great driving.
Poor restart for Kvyat who loses two places to Sainz and Gasly, while further back Russell has got ahead of team-mate Latifi for 13th place.
And we're back! Hamilton leads the pack away, from Verstappen and Perez.
We'll be up and running at the end of the lap, as the safety car peels in.
The airborne Racing Point flew in front of Vettel and Magnussen, with the Haas driver accidentally nudging the rear of the Ferrari, which has dropped him to the back of the pack in 18th place.
I'm gonna need a bottle of wine after this. Red, if you're wondering.
Stroll's car has been recovered by the track marshals and the circuit is being cleared up following the incident so green flag racing should resume shortly.
Kvyat looked like he got squeezed on the inside of Turn 8 by Stroll and had nowhere else to go having already been on the inside kerb, and collected the bollard for go measure, so the clash looked inevitable.
Bottas has fallen down the order there, having to pit with a puncture and falls down to 16th.
Stroll is OK and out of the car. He clashed with Kvyat at Turn 8 and the impact tipped over the Racing Point driver.
"I'm okay, just hanging upside down," Stroll says unbelievably calmly.
The Safety Car is out on the first lap - Stroll has crashed and is upside down!
Hamilton gets away, as Verstappen keeps Perez at bay! Bottas and Albon battling tooth and nail for fourth.
Here we go again - the 2020 Bahrain GP is back underway!
Gasly's put the hard tyre on - Kvyat moves onto softs. Magnussen also switches to the hard tyres, as Latifi bangs on the mediums.
The drivers are out of the pits, and begin the trudge back to the grid.
So with that, Bottas shuffles up two spots, as does Norris. Vettel also moves up to the top 10.
The race will be restarted with a standing start, with the order they were in when the red flag was shown, which is: Hamilton, Verstappen, Perez, Bottas, Albon, Ricciardo, Norris, Ocon, Gasly, Vettel, Stroll, Leclerc, Sainz, Giovinazzi, Kvyat, Raikkonen, Magnussen, Russell, Latifi.
Confirmation that the session will restart at 18:35 local time - so that's in just over 10 minutes.
Nothing on any news of a restart just yet - we'll get a 10 minute warning if there is one. This will result in another standing start, as per the regs.
More from van der Merwe on the crash: "It just goes to show all the systems we’ve developed worked hand in hand; the halos, the barriers, the seatbelts, everything all worked as it should. Without just one of those things, it could have been a very different outcome."
Alan van der Merwe, the FIA medical car driver, speaking after the crash: “It was a big surprise for us as well, we’ve never seen that much fire in 12 years [working]. Romain started to get out of the car himself which was pretty amazing after an accident like that. It was a relief to see he was OK back here [at the track medical centre].”
Current repairs are ongoing - circuit staff is putting together a concrete wall as a temporary solution.
The FIA has given an update on Grosjean: "He is stable and being taken by helicopter to the MDF MC Military Hospital for further evaluation."
The biggest credit and thank you must be given to the FIA medical team and track marshals that jumped into action after Grosjean's crash. They may see it as doing their jobs, but their bravery and quick-thinking has avoided a disaster.
An update: Grosjean is being transported to hospital with suspected broken ribs - but that's to be confirmed on arrival.
The more replays of the Grosjean crash that are shown, the more unbelievable it is that the French driver got out of that car. The front half of his Haas is wedged within the broken barrier when the car goes up in flames before he is able to scramble out.
We're expecting a minimum 45 minute delay here, as repairs to the barriers are ongoing.
