F1 Austrian GP Live Commentary and Updates - Race day

Updates on the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring

Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing RB18, Charles Leclerc, Ferrari F1-75, Carlos Sainz, Ferrari F1-75, George Russell, Mercedes W13, the rest of the field at the start of the Sprint race

The Austrian GP has seen the return of the sprint race weekend format this weekend.

Max Verstappen claimed pole position and won the sprint race at the Red Bull Ring, after he had his lead in the F1 world drivers’ championship trimmed in a dramatic British GP last time out.

Verstappen is joined on the front row for the Austrian GP by Charles Leclerc, with Carlos Sainz third in front of George Russell, as Sergio Perez recovered from a grid penalty in qualifying to charge from 13th to fifth in the sprint race.

There's a 10% risk of rain for this one, so none of the wet-tyre shenanigans that defined the F2 and F3 races expected.
It looks as though Mercedes has got the brakes sorted on the #44 machine, but it might be a tentative formation lap for Hamilton.
I don't want to do a "them's the brakes" joke for the second time this weekend, but there's a lot of work going on with Hamilton's brakes on the grid.
Just under 20 minutes to go, as the orange flares suffuse the circuit in their wispy tangerine grasp. Keen anticipation continues to build, and no doubt we'll see multiple track limits warnings today.
We've had questions about the kind of ice cream: can confirm it was a white chocolate Biscoff thing. Insanely good, if you've got an insatiable sweet tooth. It was not, contrary to popular belief, a Cornetto.
Scratch the earlier message - Bottas is starting from the pitlane with a new rear wing. Apologies for missing that - in my defence, I was eating an ice cream at the time.
For the stats fans: Esteban Ocon will start his 100th F1 Grand Prix today, and Nicholas Latifi makes his 50th start.
In race news: Valtteri Bottas starts from 19th after the pre-weekend change of power unit components, while Alonso now does the same - but the Alpine driver was starting at the back anyway.
If there happens to be anyone out there in attendance reading this, please be good to your fellow F1 fans. Or, at the very least, leave them alone. F1 races should be safe and free from any kind of abuse and harassment.
If you missed the sprint race yesterday, you missed out on a great battle between Hamilton and Schumacher for eighth place. Verstappen won the short race, as Leclerc and Sainz's battle arguably held them back.
Hello everyone, and welcome to our Autosport Live feed for the Austrian Grand Prix! The race will begin in just under an hour's time, and we'll have all of the updates as they happen throughout.
