Barcelona F1 test two day two

Bottas goes back into the garage this time round, but is replaced on track by the Haas of Grosjean.
Sainz brings the McLaren back to the pits. It's just Bottas - who heads back out after a quick pit visit - on the middle tyre in Pirelli's testing range, the C3, and Ricciardo (on the harder C2) lapping now. Bottas's pace is the best part of three seconds faster than Ricciardo's.
Suddenly the track is pretty quiet again. Sainz and Bottas are still out on the C3s, while Ricciardo is at a similar pace on the C2s to that which we saw earlier on his longer runs. His latest lap is a 1m25.370s.
Kubica brings the Williams into the pits after a first performance run of the day and is followed by Kvyat. Raikkonen and Grosjean have also headed back to their garages.
The most minor of improvements for Kubica, who improves by a thousandth on his latest fast lap.
Ricciardo has chipped away at his time again and gets down to a 1m23.718s. It looks like he might be on another long run on those C2s, though, as that's still 2.6s off the next slowest car (Kubica's Williams).
Raikkonen is up to sixth briefly with a 1m19.441s, but is bumped back to seventh. Kvyat (1m19.060s) and Perez (1m19.265s) are now fifth and sixth.
Kubica puts in another better time, getting down to a 1m21.165s.
Green in the first sector on the timing screen for Kubica, Ricciardo and Bottas.
Immediate improvements on the board. Raikkonen sets a new best of 1m19.721s, while Kubica gets his first representative lap of the day - a 1m21.684s.
It's a big rush of cars, understandably, heading straight onto the track. Sainz, Verstappen, Bottas, Kvyat, Raikkonen, Ricciardo and Kubica are all out there.
As we get back underway, here’s the latest lap count from the morning so far:

Verstappen, 41
Vettel, 40
Bottas, 36
Ricciardo, 34
Sainz, 25
Kvyat, 24
Grosjean, 24
Raikkonen, 23
Perez, 16
Kubica, 14
We could hear an engine down in the pitlane, but we're still not back underway. The vehicles - forklift truck and all - have left Turn 3 now, though.
See the little fins either side of the #7? There's four of them to direct flow outwards off the top of the chassis, presumably dropping down to help manage a little bit of tyre wake. These are the same height as the top of the front of the chassis to stay within the regulations, and the large S-duct ensures that a consistent stream of airflow remains attached to the car.

We'll attempt to escape this tedium with some insight from our technical editor, JAKE BOXALL-LEGGE.
Nope, we spoke to soon. The forklift is back in shot and another safety vehicle has arrived on the scene.
Looks like everyone is off the scene now, so hopefully the session will resume shortly.
Hmm. All of the other attending vehicles have now left Turn 3, but the forklift - which momentarily looked as though it was heading off - is still in place as more work is done on the positioning of the barriers.
Ferrari says a "mechanical problem" caused Vettel's off. It did look like a cut-and-shut 'problem on the car', seeing straight lines across the gravel.

No details yet on what the problem was. Vettel's been taken to the medical centre as a precaution. Ferrari says he's "fine"!
It might be a couple more minutes before the session gets going again as a forklift truck is now on the scene to put the Tecpro barriers back in place.
As we wait for the action to get back underway, here’s a story breaking from the paddock:

Fernando Alonso will test McLaren's 2019 car as part of a new role he has been given as a team "ambassador", following his decision not to race in F1 this season
Fernando Alonso to test McLaren's 2019 Formula 1 car as ambassador
After a long and delicate extraction from the barriers, the car is finally out of the misery sand and heading back to the pits on the back of the flatbed truck.
Heart in mouth moment for the marshals as the back of the Ferrari drops suddenly while they try to help it onto the flatbed! No additional harm done, though.
Recovery crews and marshals are straight on the scene. Looks like Vettel has gone off at the start of Turn 3 and straight on into the barriers.
Perez sets his best times in the first and second sectors, but can't improve come the end of the lap.
