Saying that, Bottas gets within 0.2s of his best with his latest effort.
No signs of improvement from Bottas, Vettel and Verstappen as they settle into their latest runs. Their three teams are leading the way on mileage. The cream rises...
Track temperature is now 27.2C and the ambient has hit the dizzy heights of 12.1C. In Newcastle we'd be out in short-sleeved shirts.

Magnussen, who emerged again briefly, is now back in the pits and heading for the garage this time.

Verstappen at work in the sunshine this morning.
Vettel completes his lap but it falls away and he's two tenths slower.
Verstappen, on ultra-softs, improves to a 1m21.325s. Bottas is out again on softs.
Ooh, Vettel gets very close, but no cigar for the Ferrari driver. He clocks a 1m20.679s, so doesn't improve. But he has just set a personal best in the first sector...
Magnussen brings that run to an end. Good work from the Dane.
Vettel still on softs and lapping a few tenths off the quickest we've seen so far this morning.
Small improvement from Magnussen next time by, to a 1m21.829s.
Magnussen improves in fifth, down to a 1m21.990s.
Make that three: Hulkenberg's back in.
Verstappen heads out in the Red Bull. Four cars on track.
Hulkenberg gets off the mark with a 1m31.524s.
Hulkenberg's Renault was kicking up a lot of sparks from the right-hand side as he passed under our noses on the pit straight just now.
Magnussen improves again to a 1m22.474s.
Ericsson returns, minus aero rakes, so whatever programme Sauber is on that run clearly didn't warrant a performance check.
Vettel's headed out again in the Ferrari.
Magnussen's up to fifth now on a 1m23.370s.
Hulkenberg's out there in the Renault so we should be about to get our last remaining 'first lap time'.
Can you go slower than a 1m56.283s? Hell yeah you can. Ericsson's second lap on mediums is a 2m04.520s.
There's a marked disparity in the levels of industry thus far: Mercedes top the pops with 37 laps, then it's Red Bull on 28, Toro Rosso on 16, Ferrari on 15, Force India on 13, Williams and Haas on 9, Sauber on 8, McLaren on 4 and Renault on 2.
Gasly brings that very productive run to an end and returns to the Toro Rosso garage.

The Sauber ran earlier with flo-vis paint down the right-hand side and an aero rake on the left between the front wheels and sidepod. The side with the rake fitted will be to try to understand the airflow off the car's surface, and the flo-vis is to look at airflow on the surface. Doing both at once is probably just killing two birds with one stone. The data from the aero rake will take time to decipher, whereas the paint is visual and requires just a couple of decent camera shots - and a major clean up job!
Magnussen has improved to a 1m24.290s, which puts him seventh.
Ericsson's was a 1m56.283s. No, that's not a typo. He's 35.6s off the pace in ninth. Just Hulkenberg who is yet to set a time.
Now Gasly goes third! On a 1m20.973s, just three tenths slower than Bottas.
Magnussen on the board with a 1m26.665s. That puts the Haas man eighth. What's Ericsson got?
Gasly now up to fourth, just a second off Bottas's benchmark. Strong work from the Toro Rosso.
Bottas in the pits again, for good this time, Magnussen and Ericsson hit the track.
Gasly up to fifth with his latest improvement, a 1m23.578s.
Gasly was indeed gearing up for a flier. He stays seventh, but improves to a 1m24.834s.
Bottas into the pitlane in the Mercedes, as the now-familiar sound of burnouts follows him right to the other end and back out again.
Gasly's second flying lap is a steady 1m29s. We'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say it's either part of the work set by Toro Rosso or a slow lap ahead of a flier.
Verstappen in the pits. Bottas continues, his last two laps have been low-1m21s.
Gasly does indeed get on the board, using soft tyres to set a 1m26.176s.
Toro Rosso, one of the four not to set a time yet, might well be about to do so. Gasly's back out in the Honda-powered machine.
Bottas, meanwhile, is back in the 1m20s and just started his 33rd lap. Relentless from Mercedes considering four teams haven't even set a time yet and one of the teams that has (McLaren) has already stopped...
