Hamilton Canada
The two Lotus appear extremely strong with Grosjean third overall. Maldonado was a bit further down in eighth, but both put in extended stints on the soft tyre which bodes well for the rest of the weekend.
We'll see runners in FP2 using the prime tyre as well as the option, as the beginning of the session is set to be dry. We could see rain later though.
So Hamilton takes his third FP1 win of the season, tying team-mate Nico Rosberg.
Canada has always been a strong circuit for Hamilton and Rosberg will be looking to deal him a mental blow if he can win this weekend and take is third straight win.

"Can you please try to talk to me a bit earlier than that when I'm braking for the last corner," complains Button after an ill-timed radio call was followed by a trip over the chicane run-off.
"I don't know why but every time you talk to me it seems to be in a corner. There are long enough straights here..."

Checkered flag
Chequered flag is out and that's the end of the session
The only person who has done a longer stint is Maldonado, currently on his 15th lap. Everyone on soft tyres this session.
Grosjean and Hulkenberg are both on 12 lap stints, the pair lie third and fourth respectively overall.
The two Mercedes drivers out front are on seven lap stints.

"How is the pace?" asks Perez. "At the moment, Nico looks quicker," is the reply. Pretty blunt.
Bottas is into the pits, currently lying 10th overall.
Ricciardo is someone who hasn't really moved from 14th all session. Could it be something to do with saving that all important fourth and final powerplant?

Sainz tells Toro Rosso the car has "poor drivability. Lots of holes." The reply is: "Yes, we know. Keep it until the end of the run then we'll fix it. Keep going."
Grosjean is fighting for space on track. He backed off on the back straight to get a clean run out of Turn 13 to start a new lap.
Hulkenberg tells Force India he's got graining beginning on both front and rear tyres.
Obviously that instruction from Mercedes was because Rosberg was practicing race fuel consumption rather than in danger of running dry this morning.
Quote
"So Nico," says Mercedes, "fuel consumption on the last lap was too much. You need to save more."
Vettel was nearly four seconds down on his best time last time around, no improvements impending looking at the sector times.
While most cars are on track, we haven't seen a personal best or any shuffling in the order for quite some time.
Set-up and heavy fuel runs could be the explantion for that.

Rosberg asks Mercedes to keep an eye on what's going on with his car at low rpm.
Ricciardo skips over the run-off at the final chicane.
Sainz's explanation of his pit-exit incident was that the engine wasn't responding and he couldn't get out of gear.
Alonso, Raikkonen and Sainz are the only drivers remaining in the pits.
Massa is setting personal best sectors on this lap, he's looking to break into the top five from sixth.
Most of the cars are on track now so that order will almost certainly change, quite significantly in fact.
Just over 10 minutes to go, let's run through the order:
1 Hamilton
2 Rosberg
3 Grosjean
4 Hulkenberg
5 Vettel
6 Massa
7 Kvyat
8 Maldonado
9 Alonso
10 Bottas
1 Hamilton
2 Rosberg
3 Grosjean
4 Hulkenberg
5 Vettel
6 Massa
7 Kvyat
8 Maldonado
9 Alonso
10 Bottas

Mercedes tells Rosberg the wind "is picking up a little bit. Still a tailwind into [Turn] 10."
Sainz is now being pushed backwards towards his garage for attention.
Problem at the end of the pits for Sainz, prompting the Toro Rosso mechanics to start sprinting down the pitlane.
Just to explain, all cars have been on soft tyres this session. The super-soft will be used in FP2 which is set to be dry. Sunday's race however could be a different story...
Make that 12 cars on track, and the timing screen looks set to be busy for the rest of the session.
A replay of a Massa lock-up shows a nasty flat-spot developing on his left front.
Eight cars out on track now with just under 16 minutes to go. Plenty of lock-ups and moments keeping the action interesting so far.
While Alonso sits in the pits, he's eighth overall on a 1m18.128s.

BEN ANDERSON at Turn 3: Grosjean catches a massive slide as he gets too greedy with the throttle right in front of Lotus team-mate Maldonado. Lots of style points for that moment.
Massa remains top through the final speed trap, with Bottas now second.
The Brazilian managed 186mph, with Bottas a whole 1mph slower.

Rosberg also had an issue on the last lap, cutting the chicane at Turn 8.
Hamilton, Vettel and Maldonado are the only top 10 runners on the track, the only other being Raikkonen in 11th.
Hamilton remains top - despite complaining about upshifts - and is still 0.415s ahead of Rosberg.
The German will surely be hoping that Hamilton doesn't sort those upshifts and go even further ahead.

Hamilton has a minor excursion at the third chicane, according to the race control computer.
