65 min: Maldonado is back on track for a second run in the Williams. He is currently 12th with a best time of 1m38.673s.
65 min: Alonso improves to fourth fastest in 1m37.319s, but must be suffering from that massive lock-up on the previous tour.
64 min: Sutil pits this time round for checks. Replays show that he lost part of the end fence over the saw-tooth kerb exiting the final corner.
63 min: Raikkonen has put a 1m37.003s lap on the board to go second fastest, fractions off Webber's best.
63 min: Alonso has also been for an excursion at the first corner after a smoky lock-up at the end of the main straight.
62 min: Sutil's race engineer confirms that there is damage to the end plate and advises his charge to be careful.
62 min: Meanwhile, Raikkonen is back on track in his Lotus and is already setting fast sector times.
62 min: Sutil completes another lap but loses time in sectors two and three. As he comes down the straight we can see signs of slight damage to the right-hand front wing end plate.
62 min: Replays show the young Mexican may have been caught out by the closing speed to a Ferrari ahead and he has got back underway.
61 min: Yellows are out and Gutierrez is the cause after arriving too quickly at Turn 14, spinning onto the run-off.
60 min: Sutil completed his next effort but lost a chunk of time in the middle sector. Therefore, the German does not improve.
59 min: Di Resta is already completing his second effort after a middle lap to cool the hard compound. He moves up to seventh with 1m37.782s.
59 min: Alonso, now up to speed with five laps on his hard rubber, moves up to fourth fastest in 1m37.617s, seven tenths off the benchmark.
58 min: Sutil has backed off by several seconds per sector to cool the tyres. He crosses the line and begins another timed lap.
57 min: Alonso joins the order down in 12th, with Gutierrez moving up to 13th in his Sauber.
57 min: But that lap from the Scot becomes eighth, as Sutil registers 1m37.769s on his first effort, to go fourth.
56 min: Di Resta has moved up to seventh place in the Force India, with a time of 1m38.140s.
56 min: Webber pits the Red Bull after six laps on that run.
55 min: Vettel also improves after backing off for a lap. He produces 1m37.104s to trim the gap to his team-mate down to 0.169s.
55 min: After a couple of slow tours, Massa clocks a 1m37.771s to move up to fourth fastest.
54 min: That lap featured a slight error as Webber ran wide in the final corner. But tyre-wise we are seeing a similar pattern to last season, as the drivers deliver one hot lap, then one at a slow pace to cool the tyres, before going at a second effort.
54 min: Raikkonen watches on as the repairs to his KERS are wrapped up in the Lotus garage. He should be back on track shortly.
Stopwatch
53 min: Webber backed off for a lap on his hard tyres. But then he produces a quicker lap of 1m36.935s to extend his advantage.
52 min: Alonso is now making a late entrance to the session for his runs on the hard tyres.
52 min: So it's two Red Bulls from the two Mercedes drivers, then Grosjean fifth, Massa sixth, Maldonado seventh and Perez in eighth.
52 min: Massa, three laps into a run on the hard tyres, springs up to sixth fastest in his Ferrari.
51 min: Vettel moves into second place with 1m37.354s. He is 0.279s shy of his team-mate.
50 min: Vettel is also on track in the other Red Bull Renault.
Stopwatch
50 min: Webber is coming towards the end of his first timed lap. He was quickest of all in the second sector and he goes quickest with 1m37.075s.
Stopwatch
49 min: Rosberg takes over at the front of the field with a time of 1m37.588s and his team-mate Hamilton moves into second spot.
49 min: Button pushed back into the McLaren garage with reports on the radio of a rear puncture, which could dent his run plans for this session.
48 min: Maldonado posts his first time of the weekend and moves into that fourth spot with 1m38.901s.
48 min: Vergne jumps ahead of Ricciardo and into fourth with a lap of 1m39.284s.
Stopwatch
48 min: Grosjean turns up the pace for Lotus, taking the benchmark time to a 1m37.915s.
46 min: Ricciardo crosses the line and improves to fourth with a time of 1m39.567s.
46 min: Perez is now second in the McLaren, with Grosjean third, Button fourth, Vergne into fifth and his Toro Rosso team-mate Ricciardo sixth.
Stopwatch
45 min: Hamilton operates the DRS down the Penang straight on his way to 1m38.113s and the top of the timesheet.
44 min: Ricciardo completes his first timed lap of the weekend and slots into fourth with 1m41.313s.
44 min: Grosjean tops the fist sector but clatters the kerb awkwardly at the fast Turn 12, ending the lap in 1m39.302s, half a second off Perez.
42 min: Button slots in second fastest, over 2s down on his team-mate after an opening flyer.
