Lap 55: The charging pair are now around one second behind fifth placed Hulkenberg and they will catch him before the end.
Lap 55: Alonso leads by 3.7 seconds as he remains on course to be the first double winner of 2012.

Lap 54: Perez loses ground and Schumacher nips through and up to seventh. Webber follows him past for the third time and the Australian is into eighth spot.
Lap 53: Meanwhile ... Petrov is through and he passes Massa's Ferrari to take over 15th place.
Lap 53: The stewards have looked at the incident between Petrov and Ricciardo and subsequently decided that no further action is necessary.
Lap 53: Five laps remain in a fascinating European Grand Prix.
Lap 52: Petrov sends a move up the inside of Massa going into the final corner, but can't get the job done.
Lap 52: Down the field, Massa in 15th is actually holding up a recovering Petrov in the Caterham.
Lap 52: Hamilton cuts the lead gap to 3.5 seconds, despite a mistake at the final corner.
Lap 51: Rosberg charges his way past Senna and takes over 11th spot. He sets the fastest lap of the race on his next tour with 1m42.614s and is just 15 seconds behind Button and catching the Briton at more than two seconds per lap.
Lap 51: Hamilton has the best pace of the top three on the latest lap and still must be ruing that bungled pitstop that put him behind Alonso.
Lap 51: Senna's rise to 12th place is at the expense of Ricciardo, who has clearly made a further mistake, allowing the Brazilian through.
Lap 50: A poor lap for Raikkonen on the last tour, falling 1.1 seconds behind Hamilton.
Lap 50: Schumacher is now up to eighth with Webber ninth, Button 10th and Senna is some 19 seconds back from them in 11th.
Lap 50: Button continues to drop back in eighth. Schumacher fights his way through and Webber again follows the Mercedes, demoting Button down two places.
Lap 50: Maldonado is still a strong fourth for Williams, with Hulkenberg fifth and di Resta still defending from Perez in sixth and seventh.
Lap 49: The incident between Petrov and Ricciardo is being investigated by the stewards.
Lap 49: 1m44.6s laps for the top three, with Alonso still a comfortable 4.2 seconds clear of Hamilton and Raikkonen.
Lap 49: Ricciardo was able to keep going, but in the aftermath he lost 12th place to the charging Rosberg.
Lap 49: Stewards have decided no further action for Hamilton after an investigation of his moves around the yellows for Vettel's stopped car.
Lap 49: Ricciardo attempted a move which Petrov initially was able to resist. But the Toro Rosso driver cut back against the Russian and tried a move on the outside and the pair made contact, as Petrov defended his position.
Lap 48: Oh it's all gone wrong for Petrov and he coasts back into the pits missing his front wing.
Lap 48: Rosberg rejoins in 13th position and is around five seconds behind the Petrov versus Ricciardo battle.
Lap 47: Lotus is reporting that Grosjean's problem was definitely alternator. "Alternator problem, so battery power for the fuel pump, no more bat juice, fuel pressure gone. No fuel, no go." So is bat juice the secret ingredient, and where can we get some?
Lap 47: The stop for Rosberg moves Petrov back into 11th in the Caterham and just one place off the points, but Ricciardo is now on his gearbox.
Lap 47: Raikkonen is looking very racy in the tyre-kind Lotus and Hamilton will have a tough job keeping the Finn at bay for another 10 laps.
Lap 47: Button is now 5.5s back from Perez, as Rosberg pits from ninth place and drops out of the points.
Lap 47: Alonso is taking it easy for the moment, with Hamilton and Raikkonen closing slightly on the latest lap.
Lap 46: Charles Pic is 17th and all over the back of de la Rosa's HRT, in what is an extremely important battle for those two teams.
Lap 46: Di Resta, sixth, sets his best lap of the day but now has Perez right behind him.
Lap 46: Petrov drops down to 12th and has Ricciardo bearing down on him.
Lap 45: Schumacher is through and up to 10th place and Webber follows through quickly into 11th.
Lap 45: The Caterham crew must be beside themselves with the Russian in a points scoring position with just over 10 laps to go, but Schumacher is on top of him.
Lap 45: Behind Perez, Button is now three seconds back in eighth, with Rosberg ninth, Petrov an amazing 10th after three stops and Schumacher 11th.
