Lap 48: Alonso put up a spirited defence there, but Webber had the tyre advantage to pull off a brave move around the outside of Alonso.
Lap 48: It's a fine move from Webber and he leads for Red Bull!
Lap 48: Webber is right with the Ferrari at the Loop, sending the DRS move around the outside of the Ferrari...
Lap 47: Five laps remain as a battle rages for the lead of the British Grand Prix.
Lap 47: Schumacher tries round the outside of Hamilton ... and makes the move stick! The German is up to seventh place.
Lap 47: Alonso holds a wobble in Brooklands, still keeping Webber behind for now.
Lap 47: Down the field, Ricciardo is also closing back up to team-mate Vergne. They are battling over 13th place.
Lap 47: Webber has great traction in his Red Bull thanks to far better grip but Alonso still holds him off into Brooklands this time.
Lap 46: 0.4 seconds is the lead gap as they flash past the pits and into the DRS zone.
Lap 46: Hamilton in seventh is now just 0.7s ahead of Schumacher. Then there is a nine second gap to the three-car fight behind.
Lap 46: Webber is encouraged on by his team, telling him the gearbox and weather are not to be worried about.
Lap 46: Alonso gets DRS as well thanks to the HRT, keeping Webber at bay for the moment.
Lap 46: Three battles coming up now. The lead fight between Alonso and Webber, the fight for seventh between Hamilton and a closing Schumacher, and the three-car fight that we have been talking about for ninth place between Hulkenberg, Senna and Button.
Lap 46: Webber is just half a second behind Alonso now as the pair come up to lap Karthikeyan in the HRT.
Lap 45: Webber has Alonso right in his sights now as they fling through Maggotts and Becketts.
Lap 45: Button has a go round the outside of Stowe corner against Senna but the Brazilian holds him off and maintains 10th position.
Lap 45: 1.3 seconds is the gap at the line as Webber surely closes on taking the lead away from Alonso.
Lap 44: Alonso's pace isn't great at the moment as he finds the soft rubber a handful with still nine laps remaining.
Lap 44: Meanwhile, it certainly isn't over up front as Webber closes to 2.2 seconds off the lead.
Lap 44: This three-car scrap for ninth is the only real fight on the circuit. Hulkenberg holds on for now as Senna comes under attack from Button.
Lap 44: Hamilton has been on these tyres for a while and his pace is poor at the moment.
Lap 43: Schumacher, eighth, is being encouraged on as he closes on Hamilton's McLaren. The gap is now 2.5 seconds.
Lap 43: Button is right with them now and will not want to wait with points on offer .
Lap 43: Senna in 10th was told a minute or two ago by his race engineer that his tyres are good and that he can push until the end.
Lap 43: Webber continues to close on leader Alonso, with the gap now down to 3.3 seconds.
Lap 42: Hulkenberg is beginning to lose pace. Senna in 10th is still on his tail and Button has joined the party.
Lap 42: Massa's best doesn't last long as Grosjean again tops the lap table with a new best of 1m35.382s. He's now 3.3s behind his team-mate.
Lap 42: Showers remain on the radar, but the closest is just to the east of Northampton. It is likely to stay dry until the end.
Lap 42: Massa is the next man to challenge in the fastest lap stakes, clocking a 1m35.623s.
Lap 41: Further back down the field, Maldonado has made his way past Kovalainen and is running in a clear 16th place, but a full 34 seconds behind Rosberg.
Lap 41: Alonso has to clear past Kovalainen's Caterham on the latest lap, but Webber does edge closer - 3.9 seconds at the line.
Lap 41: Senna is now on the gearbox of Hulkenberg's Force India and pushing to take ninth away from the German.
Lap 41: Hulkenberg is now ninth after that second round of stops with Senna 10th, Button 11th, Kobayashi 12th and Vergne is ahead of team-mate Ricciardo into 13th.
Lap 41: Alonso's pace is good at the moment on fresh softs, taking half a second out of Webber on the latest lap. He leads by 4.4 seconds.
Lap 40: Kobayashi did lose a fair bit of time after having to be pulled back. He rejoined in 12th place.
Lap 40: Grosjean, sixth, sets the fastest lap but he is over 22 seconds off the lead after earlier wing damage.
Lap 40: The Japanese missed the pitbox by some margin, but the crew has picked themselves up and sent him out on fresh tyres.
Lap 39: Kobayashi has just pitted for the final time and has clattered into his Sauber mechanics.
Lap 39: Vettel is third, six seconds behind his team-mate.
Lap 39: Alonso resumes in the lead with a margin of a few seconds over Webber.
