Lap 15: Trulli pits and takes on soft tyres. He exits the lane and sails straight on at Turn 1, losing several seconds. He rejoins without damage.
Lap 15: Buemi is up to sixth having not stopped with Button seventh, Heidfeld eighth, Alguersuari ninth and a flying Webber up to 10th place.
Lap 15: Alonso and Schumacher dive in this time around but the rainfall is not enough for wet rubber at this stage.
Lap 14: Hamilton's early stop has put him ahead of Heidfeld, with team-mate Button also pipping the Renault out of the pits.
Lap 14: Chaos in the pitlane as the teams frantically get ready for stops now. Webber though sets the fastest lap of the race so far with 1m44.184s.
Lap 13: Hamilton tells the team it is raining, just as he has made a tyre change for more dry rubber.
Lap 13: Di Resta posts the fastest first sector time on his new tyres as the rain begins to fall at Sepang.
Lap 13: More spots of rain are beginning to fall and if this gets any heavier the surface will become very slippery.
Lap 13: This is a strategy for Hamilton to clear Heidfeld with a quick lap on new rubber. He resumes 10th behind Petrov.
Lap 12: Di Resta is back out again but likely to fall behind Webber in terms of track position.
Lap 12: Button is fourth and closing on Hamilton, with Massa and Alonso right on his tail.
Lap 12: Di Resta pits the Force India from 13th, having been holed up behind Rosberg for the first 10 laps.
Lap 12: Vettel's pace has faded with his grip level to a 1m45.798s, which the Ferraris are matching as they chase Button's McLaren.
Lap 11: So Kobayashi now has a free run in ninth with Buemi having passed team-mate Alguersuari and now 10th. Alguersuari is 11th.
Lap 11: Hamilton is told to look after his tyres so he can run as long as possible in this stint to make an opportunistic stop if it rains.
Lap 11: Webber comes into the pits from 10th and he takes on soft tyres. He's down and away in a lowly 17th place.
Lap 11: Vettel tells his team he is "entering phase two" - a codeword for the level of tyre degredation he is experiencing.
Lap 10: Kobayashi seems to have the measure of Webber in the fight for ninth currently and the Japanese has opened up a 1.1s buffer.
Lap 10: Vettel has a commanding 6.3s lead as Hamilton continues his chase of Heidfeld.
Lap 10: The soft tyres will be getting towards the end of their useful life after 10 laps on heavy fuel, but the drivers will be told to hang on.
Lap 9: But tyres isn't the issue here and it's a lengthy stop for Maldonado. He's been in the pit for over one minute.
Lap 9: The radar shows a shower has skirted past the circuit, so no rain is expected for the moment.
Lap 9: Maldonado pits for Williams. He has fresh tyres in abundance - two sets of each compound.
Lap 9: Hamilton deploys his DRS in the chase of Heidfled but still can't find a way past the German.
Lap 8: Vettel reports he is starting to pick up some vibrations on his first set of tyres.
Lap 8: Oh this is great stuff - Kobayashi is back past Webber again for ninth. That's five changes of position between these two already.
Lap 8: Vettel meanwhile is profiting from that battle and is 4.7s clear up front.
Lap 7: Hamilton is the fastest man through the first sector and is well-placed to use the DRS on Heidfeld on the main striaght.
Lap 7: Webber passes Kobayashi again and these two are having a great dice. The Australian takes over ninth position.
Lap 6: Hamilton is much closer to Heidfeld now and is only 0.6s behind as they flash over the line.
Lap 6: Schumacher is asked to look after his tyres and warned of rain in five to 10 minutes.
Lap 6: Schumacher and Kobayashi are now chasing Petrov down the main straight.
Lap 6: Petrov locks up at Turn 14, running wide and allowing Alonso's Ferrari through into sixth.
Lap 6: Alguersuari in 11th is coming under attack from Toro Rosso team-mate Buemi, while further back di Resta is still within a second of Rosberg.
