Lap 12: Ricciardo is still 15th, but he now has the di Resta, Perez, Petrov express bearing down on him.
Lap 12: Perez then tries to have a go at di Resta and takes 16th for a moment, but he runs wide and the Scot is able to repass immediately.
Lap 11: Di Resta continues to pull Perez and Petrov along with him through the pack. They all pass Karthikeyan.
Lap 11: Button sets the fastest lap, pegging the gap to leader Vettel at 4.8 seconds. Webber is a further second behind in third.
Lap 11: Di Resta, Perez and Petrov have all passed d'Ambrosio. They now run in 17th, 18th and 19th.
Lap 10: Buemi follows his team-mate's example and comes through on Senna to take 11th place, as the Toro Rosso pair move forward.
Lap 10: Another lonely afternoon developing for the Mercedes pair, falling away from the top six - Rosberg in seventh and Schumacher eighth.
Lap 10: Further back, di Resta, Perez and Petrov have now caught up to the back of d'Ambrosio.
Lap 9: Alguersuari closes up to the back of Senna's Renault in a battle for 10th and he takes the place. He's now into the points.
Lap 9: Hamilton remains sixth and is not putting much pressure on the Ferrari pair ahead. He will be looking to jump them at the stops.
Lap 8: Perez is holding onto the back of di Resta's Force India and the pair of them will engage battle with Kovalainen, the HRTs and d'Ambrosio soon.
Lap 8: Di Resta in 18th is two seconds per lap quicker than the four drivers in front of him. He will catch them in two laps.
Lap 7: Webber's charge against Button has faded slightly over the last couple of laps, hardly troubling the McLaren on the latest run to Turn 4.
Lap 7: Alguersuari in 11th is told on the team radio that he must try to pass Senna, as the Spaniard's race will be heavily compromised.
Lap 6: Di Resta pitted early with Force India realising that hard tyres was not the right option to start the race.
Lap 6: Meanwhile, Vettel's lead is up to a sizable 4.2 seconds already.
Lap 6: Karthikeyan is 16th and that will please the Indian fans, ahead of d'Ambrosio 17th and di Resta recovering in 18th position.
Lap 6: Alonso has fallen 1.7 seconds behind that ongoing scrap, with Massa and Hamilton right behind the fourth-placed Ferrari.
Lap 5: Kovalainen has taken advantage of the first lap chaos and runs in 14th with Ricciardo a fine 15th at this stage.
Lap 5: Button locks up into Turn 3 and has to drive a very wide McLaren to keep Webber at bay following his DRS blast around the outside.
Lap 5: Behind the top eight, Sutil is 2.4s behind Schumacher in ninth with Senna 10th. The Brazilian is holding up Alguersuari, Buemi and Maldonado.
Lap 5: Webber looks to have a pace advantage over Button and the McLaren man will have to defend considerably to keep the Red Bull behind.
Lap 5: Petrov has pitted extremely early for tyres and falls away to around 20th position.
Lap 4: DRS is now enabled and Webber tries his first move on Button down the long straight into Turn 4.
Lap 4: Glock's Virgin is too badly damaged and the German climbs out. His race is over.
Lap 4: Trulli has also been in the wars at the rear of the field. He came into the pits after a spin but was able to rejoin.
Lap 4: Vettel is sprinting off up front with a lead of 2.7 seconds, as Button now comes under increasing pressure from Webber in the his Red Bull.
Lap 3: Following the contact between the two Williams drivers, Perez moved over and in turn was hit by Glock.
Lap 3: Replays also show Alonso was the victim of a wide moment as he jinked to avoid Webber, letting Button through into an initial third.
Lap 3: Replays of the start show that Barrichello missed his braking point for Turn 1 and nudged into the back of team-mate Maldonado.
Lap 2: Rosberg has shaken out seventh in his Mercedes, with team-mate Schumacher cutting through the carnage to run eighth.
Lap 2: Barrichello also pits and takes on a new front wing.
Lap 2: Perez and Glock are into the pits at the end of the opening lap, while Kobayashi is off to the side of the road and out of the race.
Lap 2: Vettel flashes over the line with a 1.3 second lead over Button, while Webber is now coming under pressure from Alonso.
Lap 1: Alonso has recovered to fourth after running wide in the first corner, running ahead of team-mate Massa and Hamilton in the McLaren.
Lap 1: Contact at the rear of the field and Barrichello is involved. He has dropped way down towards the back.
Lap 1: Into the twisting middle sector, it is Vettel from Button who storms past Webber into Turn 4.
Lap 1: Vettel gets a great start and Webber slots into second behind him, as Alonso slides wide at Turn 1 and loses out to Button's McLaren.
Lap 1: The five red lights go out and we are racing in India for the first time!
