Lap 51: Petrov moves aside at Turn 3 to let the battle for third come past him. The Russian loses contact with Sutil and Perez for the time being.
Lap 51: 10 laps remain in the inaugural Indian Grand Prix.
Lap 50: Webber has run wide at Turn 11, dropping away from Alonso with that mistake.
Lap 50: Schumacher remains out on his soft tyres, setting personal best times in an attempt to leapfrog team-mate Rosberg.
Lap 50: Senna elects to stay out and matches Sutil on the last lap. Senna remains ninth and now has 5.9s over the squabbling trio.
Lap 50: The lead gap is clocked at 2.8 seconds as Vettel heads the pack into lap 49.
Lap 49: Webber is yet to give up on the final podium place and is just over a second behind Alonso's Ferrari.
Lap 49: Sutil's group again pulls two seconds on Senna. The Brazilian needs to pit now or his chance of points today will be gone.
Lap 48: Vettel resumes with a comfortable lead over Button, Alonso and Webber.
Lap 48: Alguersuari pits from a temporary seventh place after Hamilton's stop.
Lap 48: Vettel naturally reacts to Button's stop and is in via a slightly wide moment at the pit entry.
Lap 48: The Sutil, Perez, Petrov battle is closing down a 7.6s gap to Senna rather quickly. Senna has made just one stop so far this afternoon.
Lap 47: Button quickly heads in to the McLaren pitbox as well, heading out on a fresh set of the hard rubber.
Lap 47: Hamilton is also in for his tyres to run to the end.
Lap 47: Alguersuari remains in eighth position but Senna in ninth is beginning to lose a lot of pace.
Lap 47: Rosberg heads in for his final change of tyres.
Lap 46: Petrov is homing in on the Sutil versus Perez battle. The Russian will now spend yet more time looking at the rear of that Sauber.
Lap 46: Alonso is now the fastest man in the middle part of the lap as he enjoys good grip from the harder tyres.
Lap 46: Perez comes through on the Virgin some six corners later and has lost contact with the Force India driver just for the moment.
Lap 46: Button has brought down the lead gap over the last couple of laps, now clocked 4.9 seconds behind Vettel towards the end of the middle stint
Lap 46: Sutil laps d'Ambrosio and that gives him some important breathing space over Perez.
Lap 45: Di Resta is through and up into 13th place, as Force India gains track position in that pitstop exchange.
Lap 44: Pace of Webber and Alonso is pretty favourable on the harder tyres, meaning the leader may consider a switch of tyres in the next few laps.
Lap 44: Di Resta senses the opportunity and posts his best lap of the race so far - 1m29.696s.
Lap 44: Kovalainen pits from 13th place in the Lotus. He is having a great day out there, battling hard, but di Resta may have him soon with the undercut.
Lap 43: The German senses the approach and leaves one car width at the apex, but is able to keep the place for now.
Lap 43: Perez gets super overspeed using the DRS and tries to make a move on Sutil at Turn 4.
Lap 43: Hamilton is making little impression on the Merecedes pair ahead of him, still clocked over 10 seconds behind them in seventh.
Lap 43: Meanwhile, Perez is now on Sutil's tail and the battle is on for 10th place.
Lap 41: Di Resta pits from 14th and that leaves Kovalainen to concentrate on trying to keep up with Petrov, who is just beginning to edge away.
Lap 41: Alonso escapes slightly from Webber as the Australian runs wide at Turn 3.
Lap 41: Meanwhile, Button sets the fastest lap but is still 5.3 seconds behind leader Vettel.
Lap 40: Webber is right with the Ferrari and will look to make a move on his warmer tyres.
Lap 40: Sutil in 10th is losing pace and Perez is now just one second behind the Force India driver.
Lap 40: Alonso resumes and is ahead of Webber on the road, gaining a place for the Ferrari with a longer run on his middle stint.
Lap 40: Alonso reacts to Webber with a stop of his own for hard rubber.
Lap 39: Kovalainen is 13th, 2.4s behind the Russian and chasing hard. But di Resta is catching the Lotus and Kovalainen will be defending again soon.
Lap 39: Ferrari will be keeping a close eye on Webber's pace, seeing if Alonso can leapfrog the Red Bull with the life remaining in his softs.
Lap 38: Only eight drivers are on the lead lap now and Alguersuari is the last of those, with Senna ninth, Sutil 10th, Perez 11th and Petrov 12th.
Lap 38: Interesting strategy move from Red Bull, with the team hoping Webber can find good pace from the hards now the track is rubbered in.
