Lap 14: Vettel sets the fastest first sector as he responds to a recent spurt of pace from Alonso.
Lap 14: Schumacher is now ninth and 1.8 seconds behind Webber, with Kobayashi 10th. The Glock train is now a full 10 seconds behind Kobayashi.
Lap 14: Hamilton is just about hanging on in third - 6.2 seconds off the lead - with Button drifting slightly in fourth.
Lap 14: Hulkenberg runs wide at Turn 7, but is able to continue without any damage to his Williams. He does not lose a position.
Lap 13: The championship leader is harrying Barrichello but his lack of speed at this stage is letting the leaders pull out the gap they need to make a stop.
Lap 13: Nick Heidfeld is 20th and has caught Lucas di Grassi. He should be past the Virgin soon.
Lap 13: Alonso now has a useful 2.3 second lead and is now 20.8 seconds clear of Webber.
Lap 13: Sutil is the first driver of that group stuck behind Glock as this battle for 11th rages. Sutil may be wary of last year when he lost patience behind Alguersuari.
Lap 12: Vettel has been told to cool his brakes slightly, which will be a worry after Mark Webber's brake failure here last year.
Lap 12: Glock crosses the line and is still ahead of that pack of cars, stretching down to 17th place. Kovalainen is 18th with di Grassi 19th.
Lap 12: Webber repeated his move on Kobayashi at Turn 5 to grab eighth from the German after the Mercedes was also wide in the first corners.
Lap 11: Webber makes a storming move on Schumacher to grab that eighth place in a vital move to make his strategy pay off.
Lap 11: Glock is holding up a huge queue of cars. Sutil, Hulkenberg, Massa, Petrov, Buemi and Alguersuari are all in a Glock train.
Lap 11: Alonso is enjoying the softer tyres out front and sets another fastest lap at 1m52.625s.
Lap 11: Kobayashi is 10th and is now 4.6 seconds ahead of Glock, who is fighting hard to keep hold of 11th.
Lap 11: Webber is right on the case of Schumacher for eigth but he must be worried by the pace of the leaders and hoping for another safety car.
Lap 10: The top four are sprinting away with a pace in the 1m53s bracket on the softer tyres. Webber is now 13.2s off the lead.
Lap 9: Barrichello is seventh, but losing ground to Kubica. Schumacher is right behind him in eighth with Webber now backed up in traffic in ninth.
Lap 8: Replays show Hulkenberg making a wild move on Vitaly Petrov in a battle over 13th position. The German takes the place and Massa also takes his opportunity to demote the Russian.
Lap 8: Trulli has made it back to the pits and has his left rear puncture attended to. He rejoins way down the field.
Lap 7: Webber now makes his move and passes Kobayashi at Turn 5. Webber takes over ninth position.
Lap 7: Alonso sprints away with a 1m53.462s, pulling back to 1.2s clear of Vettel.
Lap 7: Jarno Trulli is touring back to the pits with a puncture, relinquishing 18th position.
Lap 6: Webber is now right on the back of the Barrichello, Schumacher and Kobayashi trio who are battling the seventh.
Lap 6: Alonso is away unchallenged and leads from Vettel, Hamilton and Button.
Lap 6: Webber immediately tries to make a move on Glock to take over that 10th position. The Australian is through and back into the top 10.
Lap 6: The safety car comes into the pitlane and we are racing once again.
Lap 5: The safety car will pit at the end of this lap.
Lap 5: Schumacher is eighth with Kobayashi ninth and Glock in 10th.
Lap 5: Behind the top four, the order has changed thanks to the safety car. Rosberg is now fifth, with Kubica sixth and Barrichello seventh.
Lap 5: Vettel is reminded on the radio of the car length rule behind the safety car he fell foul of in Hungary.
Lap 4: Webber will really need another safety car to make this strategy work, as the midfield contenders he is behind are slower than the leaders.
Lap 4: Replays show that Heidfeld tried to take on two Force Indias with one Sauber. He rear-ended Sutil before being bashed up the back himself by Liuzzi.
Lap 4: Nick Heidfeld also came into the pits for a second visit.
Lap 3: It's a big gamble for the championship leader, who will come out with 11 cars ahead still needing to stop.
Lap 3: Petrov, Buemi, Hulkenberg, Sutil, Kovalainen, Trulli, Klien, Alguersuari, di Grassi and Senna are all into the pits to change onto the hard tyres.
Lap 3: Webber is rolling the dice and pits for Red Bull!
Lap 3: Liuzzi stopped just after the chicane and pulled to the inside of the circuit.
Lap 3: Liuzzi's car is unable to be retrieved safely by the marshals at Turn 10, causing the deployment of the safety car.
Lap 3: Petrov is 10th, ahead of Kobayashi 11th, Buemi 12th, Hulkenberg 13th and Sutil in 14th. Kovalainen leads the new teams battle for Lotus in 15th.
