Lap 52: Timo Glock comes into the pits and retires. This leaves just two of the six new team cars on the circuit.
Lap 53: Still just 1.1 seconds between Alonso and Vettel out front as the Red Bull pushes the Ferrari to the flag.
Lap 53: Robert Kubica passes team-mate Petrov to take over 10th position. The pair were racing side-by-side over the Anderson Bridge!
Lap 54: Sebastien Buemi has been into the pits from 13th. This could put Kovalainen close to taking the position.
Lap 54: Vettel takes the fastest lap as the lead pair continue to trade blows.
Lap 54: Kubica is charging on and now nails Massa up the inside to take over ninth position.
Lap 54: Kubica's next target is Nico Hulkenberg in the Williams, with Sutil just ahead of the pair of them in seventh.
Lap 54: Kovalainen is now 13th with Schumacher just six seconds behind the Lotus in 14th. Buemi exited the pits in 15th position.
Lap 55: Kubica is showing his overtaking skills as he slices up the inside of Hulkenberg to take over eighth position.
Lap 55: Sutil has spent the last 15 laps holding up five or six cars. Kubica is about to blow right through the lot of them. He is right on Sutil's tail.
Lap 55: Kubica tries to the outside at Turn 7 and it is wonderful move! Kubica breezes round Sutil's Force India to take over seventh place.
Lap 56: Vettel continues to pile on the pressure out front with five laps remaining.
Lap 56: Schumacher is now right on Kovalainen's tail as a battle for 13th place develops.
Lap 57: Buemi is 15th and 6.5 seconds behind the battle between Kovalainen and Schumacher and lapping two seconds per lap quicker on his new tyres.
Lap 57: The leaders are kindly let through by Schumacher and are now trying to lap Kovalainen.
Lap 57: Clever driving by Kovalainen. He lets the leaders through and keeps track position over Schumacher in the process.
Lap 57: The Lotus is cleared, putting Vettel ever closer to leader Alonso.
Lap 58: The gap between Alonso and Vettel is clocked at 0.7 seconds, but the Ferrari is able to maintain track position.
Lap 58: Mark Webber is now 26.7 seconds behind the leaders in third, with Button a further 1.6 seconds behind him in fourth.
Lap 58: The gap with three laps to go is 1.2 seconds, as Alonso just makes sure to get in and out of the corners cleanly.
Lap 59: Kubica has pulled away 13.1 seconds ahead of Sutil since passing him a few laps ago.
Lap 59: There's still five minutes on the clock, meaning the 61 laps will be finished just inside the time limit.
Lap 59: Replays show that Buemi attempted a move for 14th place against Kovalainen and the pair made contact.
Lap 60: Kovalainen's Lotus was tipped into a spin and clearly an oil line was damaged. The Finn was able to rejoin but his car has progressively burst into flames.
Lap 60: Vettel is right with Alonso as they start the final lap.
Lap 61: Kovalainen pulls off with his car ablaze on the pit straight, and immediately set to work with a fire extinguisher.
Lap 61: It is an unfortunate end to Kovalainen's race. Di Grassi takes over the new teams lead for Virgin Racing in 15th position.
Lap 61: The Petrov/Massa/Hulkenberg scrap is right ahead of the leaders as they race around for the final time.
Lap 61: Alonso is now behind Massa but there is little chance for Vettel to do it now.
Lap 61: Sutil is still in eighth place and has Hulkenberg, Massa and Petrov right behind his Force India.
Lap 61: Fernando Alonso wins the Singapore Grand Prix!
It has been an outstanding afternoon for the Spaniard, resisting immense pressure from Vettel all the way to score a fine, and vital, win.
Vettel pushed Alonso from lights to flag but in the end he couldn't find a way through, but still scores 18 valuable points.
Mark Webber grabs the final podium place after a great strategic drive, putting him further out front in the championship standings.
Jenson Button takes a solid fourth in his McLaren, keeping himself within reach of the championship leaders.
It's a fine fifth for Rosberg, with Barrichello also impressive in sixth.
Kubica fought back very strongly from that unscheduled stop and takes seventh.
Hulkenberg is trying everything to get past Sutil as they approach the final corners.
But Sutil holds on for eighth position and crosses the line just ahead of Hulkenberg ninth and Massa claims the final point in 10th.
"We will get them, don't you worry," exclaims a confident Vettel on the team radio.
