Lap 21: Alonso is right on Massa ...
Lap 21: Alonso takes the outside and can't make it stick at the hairpin ...
Lap 22: Alonso tries again but backs out of the closing door at the Mercedes Arena.
Lap 22: Behind this mighty scrap at the front, Webber is now just 0.4s behind the yet-to-pit Rosberg as they fight over sixth.
Lap 22: Massa is still ahead - "this is ridiculous" says Alonso on the radio.
Lap 22: Webber is through on Rosberg at the end of the lap and takes sixth place in the Red Bull.
Lap 22: Vettel has finally cleared that traffic and is closing again on the Ferrari battle.
Lap 23: Meanwhile, Button leads by 5.1 seconds ahead of an imminent stop.
Lap 23: Sutil is also past di Grassi now for 17th position as Senna pits the HRT from 20th.
Lap 23: Button pits and resumes behind team-mate Hamilton in fifth and now ahead of Mark Webber.
Lap 24: Kovalainen in 15th has Alguersuari crawling all over him. The Spaniard is through and now has a mammoth 34 seconds to make up on Barrichello.
Lap 24: Button is right behind Hamilton and will have fresher tyres for the run to the flag.
Lap 24: Massa sets the fastest lap and now leads by 0.8 seconds over team-mate Alonso.
Lap 24: Petrov pits the Renault from eighth and could possibly rejoin ahead of Barrichello.
Lap 25: Petrov rejoined and is quickly embroiled in a battle with Kobayashi. The Russian takes 12th position as Rosberg finally pits.
Lap 26: Rosberg was ahead of Schumacher before the stops ... and he maintains that trend, taking over 10th place.
Lap 26: Kovalainen pits for tyres from 16th place. He was leading the new teams battle with an eight second buffer over di Grassi.
Lap 27: Massa seems happier with his tyres now fully warmed and has pulled clear of Alonso over the last couple of laps.
Lap 27: The lead gap is now three seconds as Alonso begins to see Vettel looming in his mirrors.
Lap 27: Alguersuari pits from 15th place, handing the place to Sutil, who is putting in his quickest laps of the race currently.
Lap 28: Alonso may be preserving his tyres and fuel for a late attack on his team-mate.
Lap 28: A close four-car group is fighting for the final points-paying position. Rosberg is 10th with Schumacher 11th, Petrov 12th and the man they will all fear - Kobayashi - in 13th.
Lap 28: Massa is pressing home his advantage with a 1m18.399s fastest lap and is now leading by 3.4 seconds.
Lap 29: "Keep this going, you can win," engineer Rob Smedley tells Massa on the radio.
Lap 29: Alonso responds with the fastest lap, clocked at 1m18.075s.
Lap 29: The top six have opened up a healthy gap over Hulkenberg and de la Rosa, who are seventh and eighth, but yet to stop.
Lap 29: Vettel is now 1.9 seconds further back in third, with Hamilton, Button and Webber close together almost 15 seconds off the lead.
Lap 30: Alguersuari rejoined only just behind Sutil after that recent stop. They are now fighting hard over 15th place but they are a whopping 54s behind Barrichello.
Lap 31: Massa takes the fastest lap with a 1m17.991s as the gap is clocked at 3.2 seconds.
Lap 31: Rosberg in 10th has edged away from team-mate Schumacher to the tune of 2.2 seconds. Petrov and Kobayashi are now hounding Schumacher.
Lap 32: Alonso responds with a 1m17.751s and is now 2.8 seconds off the leader.
Lap 32: Sutil and Alguersuari are still fighting tooth and nail for 15th with no end to this scrap in sight just yet.
Lap 33: Schumacher is really beginning to lose some pace. So much so, that Barrichello in 14th is beginning to catch Kobayashi.
Lap 33: Webber is trying to put the pressure on Button in the fight for fifth, but the Red Bull doesn't have a significant pace advantage.
Lap 34: It's a Ferrari one-two in Germany with Massa leading Alonso at half distance.
Lap 34: Liuzzi is finding some pace now in 17th. He is 11.3 seconds behind the Sutil versus Alguersuari fight, but catching at almost 1s per lap.
Lap 34: The gap is just two seconds between the Ferrari pair and we surely haven't seen the end of Alonso's ambitions for the lead.
Lap 35: Eighth placed de la Rosa has now caught Hulkenberg. Oh and now the Spaniard makes a move at Turn 6 ... and it sticks!
Lap 35: Vettel, third, has dropped away from Alonso in recent laps and is now 6.6 seconds off the lead.
Lap 35: So de la Rosa is now seventh with Hulkenberg eighth, Kubica just 1.6s behind them in ninth and Rosberg right behind the Pole in 10th.
