Thompson burns leg in race

British Touring Car Championship front-runner James Thompson is keeping his fingers crossed that he will be fit enough to race at Croft this weekend after burning his leg on his DTM debut at Oschersleben on Sunday

The Yorkshireman, who started the first race from the back of the field after engine problems left him unable to qualify, received treatment following the race after burning himself on a hot exhaust inside the cockpit.

"Because I am so tall, the team had had to cut a hole in the seat so I could sit in the car," said Thompson, who was forced to sit out the second race. "That exposed the exhaust and it became a real problem after six or seven laps. I decided to soldier on, but it was getting really uncomfortable from half distance.

"By the end of the race I was getting double vision, I couldn't feel my leg at all and my feet were tingling. I was in lots of trouble and I just hope I will be alright to race at Croft this weekend."
