Test 2: Albers fastest
Mercedes' young Dutch star Christijan Albers set the fastest time in the second DTM test session at Estoril, ahead of team-mate Bernd Schneider and Audi's Tom Kristensen. Nobody came close to matching Kristensen's super-quick 1m34.770s lap set in this morning's first test session, however
"Today we tried out quite a few things," said Albers. "We encountered no problems but we've still got a lot of work to do. Let's see how qualifying works out, because that's what really counts."
Kristensen said: "My Audi was fine right from the beginning. Right at the start of the first test I got my best lap time. For me, testing went far better than it did at Hockenheim."
This time there were two Mercedes, two Audis and two Opels in the top six times, with former champion Laurent Aiello the top Opel driver with the fourth best time.
Aiello said: "The tests in March showed Opel can run with the leading pack, and today underlined this."
Round one winner and championship leader Gary Paffett upped his pace in this one. The former McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year sliced 0.811s off his morning time to set the eighth best time in this one.
Scot Peter Dumbreck was marginally slower than he'd been in session one and slipped to 10th in the times. His best lap time this afternoon was set on a used set of tyres, as a brief rain shower wasted his new rubber.
