Stippler sets fastest lap of weekend

Frank Stippler last's gasp effort was good enough to give him the fastest time of this morning's free practice session at Brands Hatch

Stippler recorded a lap of 42.589 seconds in the final minute of this morning's session to give him the fastest lap of the weekend so far, more than half a second quicker than Tom Kristensen's best from yesterday.

Stippler's time was only two tenths of a second off the F3 Euroseries pole position, set by Paul di Resta yesterday.

The DTM field continues to be close enough to set up an intriguing qualifying session, with one second covering 18 of the 20 drivers.

Tom Kristensen, who has been consistently fast all weekend, was on top for the majority of the hour-long session before Stippler's late effort. He ended three tenths of a second behind the German.

Martin Tomczyk made it a trio of Audis in the top three positions, ahead of the lead Mercedes of Mika Hakkinen.

The session was fraught for a couple of drivers - Susie Stoddart had a brief off at Surtees on the way to the 16th fastest time, and Christian Abt ran through the gravel at Paddock Hill Bend.
