Schneider fastest in wet practice
Bernd Schneider set the pace in the opening two free practice sessions at Hockenheim on Saturday morning. The Mercedes driver, who won the last DTM championship in 1995, set his quickest time on slick tyres before the rain got much heavier. The wet conditions are expected to continue through into the afternoon's qualifying session
Indications from the first practice are that the Mercedes-Benz CLK and Opel's Astra V8 Coupe will be evenly matched despite the limited running both manufacturers have had in the run-up to the first race.
