Race: Paffett wins again

Britain's Gary Paffett scored yet another victory in the DTM for Mercedes at the Nurburgring on Sunday, his third win of the season - not counting his success in the non-championship Shanghai race and the win at Eurospeedway Lausitz which was taken away from him on a technicality

Paffett led from start to finish at the Nurburgring, his only scare coming when he struggled to pass Emanuele Pirro's Audi which had stayed out on its first set of tyres after Paffett had made his first stop. Gary was forced to make an early second stop to make sure that the chasing Mattias Ekstrom (Audi) did not get ahead, only to run into Laurent Aiello's Opel soon after he rejoined.

As soon as he was in clear air, Paffett held off Ekstrom to win by 2.19secs. Bernd Schneider finished third for Mercedes, but only after team-mate Christijan Albers had run Marcel Fassler's Opel wide at Turn 1, claiming brake problems, which allowed Schneider past both of them. Albers, who started the day as series leader, was forced out due to a lack of stopping power.

Fassler finished fourth, ahead of Tom Kristensen (Audi), Timo Scheider (Opel) and Jean Alesi (Mercedes). Peter Dumbreck finished eighth after one of his pit crew made an error and picked up the wrong air jack at his first pitstop. He had grabbed second at the first corner, and ran a solid third until he suffered the delay.
