Haug hails new era
Mercedes-Benz presented its full 2002 DTM line up to the press today at Germany's biggest amusement park, the Europa-Park Rust near Freiberg
Ten cars and drivers were on hand at the launch, with rookies Jean Alesi and Stefan Mücke joining established stars such as reigning champion Bernd Schneider and Scotland's Peter Dumbreck. Six Opel Astra Coupes and five Audi TT-Rs will join these when the burgeoning series kicks off at Hockenheim on April 19.
"The new partnership with the ADAC (Germany's premier roadside recovery service) means a big step forward," said Norbert Haug, Mercedes-Benz' vice president of motorsport. "The 2002 championship will be even more attractive. We all expect great races and exciting TV reports.
"Mercedes will enter four new CLKs and six 2001 models. The sponsors showed great interest in the series, so that we could finance 10 cars. We are all glad to have Jean Alesi in the DTM, who will certainly add to the attraction of the championship."
