Capello gets DTM run

Rinaldo 'Dindo' Capello will make his DTM debut in the series' invitation race in Shanghai on July 18. The 40-year-old Italian will drive Audi's test car, which will be looked after by Team Joest. Capello's fellow 2004 Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen is already on Audi's strength.

This will be Capello's first DTM outing, but he is no stranger to touring cars having won the 1996 Italian Championship with in a Super Touring Audi A4, and been a regular race winner for Audi between 1994 and 1998, before moving into the German firm's sportscar line-up.

"I'm really looking forward to my first race in the DTM, as this series has always interested me," said Capello, who celebrates his 40th birthday today (Thursday). "Obviously I know just how hard the DTM is, but I'll get tips from my team colleagues and prepare myself well. I want to make the most of this opportunity - you never know, maybe I can raise a few eyebrows in Shanghai."

Capello's deal brings the number of Audis racing in Shanghai up to eight. The six regular A4s for Kristensen, Christian Abt, Mattias Ekstrom, Martin Tomczyk, Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro will also all be there as well as an Abt-Audi TT-R for youngster Peter Terting.
