Audi confident of getting its act together
Audi's DTM team director Hans-Juergen Abt is confident that his team can end the season with a series of strong results - but he needs his regular drivers back to accelerate development
Audi were left without Laurent Aiello and Christian Abt at Oschersleben last weekend, with the pair racing at Le Mans, and their replacements James Thompson and Roland Asch spent most of their time getting to grips with the circuit and the TT-R car.
"We lack testing and the drivers we have this weekend have no experience of the car," said Abt. "We need the guys who know our car really well so we can keep improving and working together as a team."
Thompson, whose weekend was fraught with difficulties, said: "I think for sure there is a lot of potential, but the team needs much more development. At the end of the day we are talking about fighting against major manufacturers who are running eight cars and we are playing catch up. We will only be able to judge how well we have closed the gap at the end of the year."
