Twenty-car entry list revealed
British Touring Car Championship organisers have revealed a 20-car entry list for the 2006 season
The list includes official confirmation that Gordon Shedden will drive for reigning champions Team Halford this year, as predicted by Autosport magazine earlier in March.
The former Ford Fiesta champion has been trying to break into the BTCC for many seasons, with a one-off Production Class outing at Knockhill in 2001 providing his only race starts to date.
Question marks remain over two of the cars on the official list, with Team Halfords and Team RAC yet to nominate drivers for their planned third entries. Gareth Howell is expected to take the Halfords seat.
Although three works SEAT Leons appear on the list, one car is to be shared by James Thompson and Darren Turner, with former DTM driver Turner only appearing when Thompson has clashing World Touring Car Championship races.
The size of the entry is a boost for the BTCC, which started 2005 with only 12 cars on the grid.
Series boss Alan Gow recently predicted that as many as a dozen drivers could be in contention for victory at the Brands Hatch season opener on 9 April.
