Turner wins race three at Donington

Darren Turner took his first British Touring Car Championship win of the season in the third and final race of the day at Donington Park

The SEAT driver led impressively from the end of the first lap onwards, resisting pressure from Tom Onslow-Cole and Fabrizio Giovanardi in the Vauxhalls on the way.

He was finally given some breathing space with seven laps to go when champion Giovanardi rammed his team-mate at the Goddards chicane, with Onslow-Cole lucky to control a very lurid slide as a result.

Giovanardi did pass Onslow-Cole at the next corner, but when the Italian slid off at McLeans three laps later the youngster was back in second and closed to just over a second behind winner Turner by the finish.

Jason Plato finished third to put both works SEATs on the podium for the first time in 2008, ahead of Giovanardi, and trimmed the Italian's championship lead from 19 points to 16 in the process.

Tom Chilton, Matt Neal and Adam Jones - who won the Independents class in his Team Air Cool SEAT - were next up.

But there was misfortune for Andrew Jordan, who slid off at McLeans on lap two while running second in his Eurotech Honda and for Gordon Shedden, who led at the start from pole position, but slid off on the first lap while leading.

He finished 10th as the points-paying positions were made up of drivers who used slicks in a race of mixed weather conditions.
