Triple 8 Engineering to run NGTC-spec car in British Touring Cars next year

The team, which took its first win of the season courtesy of James Nash at Rockingham last weekend, has not confirmed which car it will build, but did pledge its future to the tin-top series.

Triple 8 has always run Vauxhall machinery since entering the BTCC as the manufacturer's works team in 1997 and currently runs a pair of ex-works Vectras powered by the NGTC-spec TOCA engine.

"Its fairly obvious now that the NGTC regulations are the future of the British Touring Car Championship. It's quite clear too that the future has already arrived, perhaps a bit sooner than we expected," said team chairman Ian Harrison.

"While our complete plans have yet to be finalised, we're announcing the switch from S2000 to NGTC now as a clear sign of our support of the BTCC going forward and where we have competed successfully since 1997.

"The NGTC cars look the part and will undoubtedly become more reliable and cost effective over time giving the BTCC a solid technical platform from which to grow the on track aspect of the series."

Triple 8 has had more success in the BTCC than any other team currently competing in the series, having taken six drivers' titles with Jason Plato, Yvan Muller, James Thompson and Fabrizio Giovanardi plus 108 wins.
