Thompson revival threatens Aiello lead
James Thompson's recent resurgence has seen the Honda driver slash Laurent Aiello's championship lead to just 23 points
The Nissan driver had been nearly 50 points ahead at one stage, but hasn't won since Oulton Park in May.
Thompson won the first race of the season at Donington, but then his Honda team appeared to lose their way. While Aiello stormed to six victories, Thompson was generally languishing helplessly in the midfield.
However, the Yorkshireman returned to form in the last meeting, taking a win and a third at Donington, and then another victory and a close 2nd on his home ground at Croft to move into second spot in the series.
David Leslie has also made progress recently and is now 3rd overall. Aiello may have looked to be cruising to the title a month ago, but the battle for the title may yet come down to the last race again.
