Silverstone 2: Muller dominates

Thompson, who had won the first of the day's races, finished second, 2.6s behind Muller, as the works Vauxhall team dominated once again.

Starting from the front row, Muller jumped Thompson at the start of the race and never looked back. Indeed, the only time he was headed in the event was during the normal shuffle caused by the compulsory pit-stops.

Although the Vauxhall's didn't put much of a show on at the front of the field, the MG duo of Anthony Reid and Warren Hughes did their best to entertain. Hughes finally sneaked past his team-mate for third late in the race, taking Reid with a brave move into Abbey.

Paul O'Neill finished a quiet fifth, ahead of an entertaining tussle between Tom Chilton's works Honda and the GA Motorsports duo of Gareth Howell and Gavin Pyper. Howell was forced out of the race when he and Chilton made contact, leaving Pyper to battle the works Honda to the finish, Chilton claiming sixth by mere thousandths of a second.

Matt Neal was out of luck for the second race running. Starting from the back of the grid after his engine failure in race one, Neal took advantage of confusion at the start to charge up to third, and quickly proceeded to set the fastest lap of the race. But it all came to nothing when mechanical glitches hit his Civic yet again, forcing him out of the race on the third lap.

Luke Hines took his second win of the day in the production class, with championship leader Michael Bentwood coming home fourth.
