Rejuvenated Rydell at Silverstone

Reigning champion Rickard Rydell put in a rejuvenated performance in qualifying at Silverstone, taking second and fourth and being the only driver to get close to the Nissan

Primera duo of David Leslie and Laurent Aiello.
"We changed the set-up quite a bit from Donington, two weeks ago - we've
been working hard on the car," explained Rydell. "We also had a pretty good
test at Thruxton last week, when I was second quickest behind Leslie, and
now we're quick here, too."

He went on to explain that the problems at Donington were a consequence of
the car being late to hit the tracks in pre-season. "We just hadn't found
the right set-up for the car - we just had to work at it. We've now got a
much better understanding of how the car works, and we know what to do to
make it fast.

"It's still not enough to beat the Nissan drivers, at least not at a
circuit like Silverstone International, where most of the corners are tight
and slow - I think we'll do better at a circuit like Thruxton, with a lot
of fast corners. But the Nissan is clearly the car to beat, and we need to
work hard to do that."

Given that Rydell has the works Nissans in front and behind him for the
Feature, and both the works cars and the Independent Nissan of Matt Neal
ahead of him for the Sprint, that wouldn't seem to give him much chance in
today's races - but he's not giving up yet.

"Well, anything can happen in the races," Rydell pointed out. "Also, it
might rain, which makes the whole thing unpredictable. But we're starting
from second and fourth, so we're up there - I still think I'm in with a
chance of winning a race."
