Reid returns in WSR MG

Former British Touring Car Championship runner-up Anthony Reid will return to the series this year as part of West Surrey Racing's MG team in time for the opening round at Thruxton this weekend

Reid will partner Colin Turkington in WSR's assault on the Independents' Trophy, as MG has withdrawn its factory support from the team. WSR has replaced MG's V6 unit with a Judd-developed K2000 four-cylinder engine.

"It's a great opportunity for me to be competing in the BTCC again," said Reid. "WSR and Judd have done a fantastic job in developing the car and engine. I put it through its paces last week and I'm very encouraged by the whole package. I can't wait to get back on the grid at Thruxton."

WSR chief Dick Bennetts said: "Colin and Anthony worked well together in the team last year; continuity is important and it's great to have them back as team-mates. With two top-line drivers we're confident of Independent victories and challenging the works teams for overall race honours."

WSR hopes to field a third car from the third round at Silverstone.
