Race 2: Plato untroubled

Two Safety Cars and pressure from WSR's Colin Turkington was not enough to trouble SEAT's Jason Plato as he notched up his sixth win of the season in race two of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch on Sunday

Race 2: Plato untroubled

Turkington lined up in pole after the original polesitter Michael Bentwood was demoted to 11th after series officials deemed his move on Turkington in race one was too heavy-handed.

While Turkington held onto his lead at the start, an aggressive Plato drove a sensational first lap to take the WSR driver on the start-finish straight. Plato never looked back.

It wasn't an easy ride for Plato by any means. Every time the SEAT driver extended his lead over Turkington, the Safety Car was brought out, first for the stranded Proton of Shaun Watson-Smith and the second for Rob Collard's Vauxhall. It caused no problems for Plato though who drove a fautless race to the flag.

"This is getting good!" Plato said after the race. "I've got to give great thanks to my team though. We had a lot of trouble on the car after the first race with huge understeer. But we made a gamble and changed a couple of things - it obviously paid off!"

Plato's team-mate Robert Huff tried to makes it a SEAT 1-2, but he failed to find his way past Turkington despite sticking to the back of the WSR driver's car for much of the race.

Vauxhall's James Thompson brought his car home in fourth spot, crucially three places ahead of team-mate Yvan Muller who was eighth after battling with a heavy success ballast on his Vauxhall.

Knockhill winner Anthony Reid saw his race finish before he had even completed one lap after a first-corner accident. The Scot drove into the pits where he shortly retired.

Plato will line up in pole for the third and final race of the day, but his car will be loaded up with success ballast.
