Preview: Three tied at the top

Vauxhall has promised to allow its three drivers tied at the top of the British Touring Car Championship to race free of team orders as the series heads to Silverstone for the Bank Holiday weekend

Vauxhall Motorsport's Yvan Muller and James Thompson both share the points lead with Egg Sport ace Matt Neal after six rounds of the series. Their closest rivals are the factory MG drivers, Anthony Reid and Warren Hughes, who are 24 and 30 points in arrears respectively.

Mike Nicholson, Vauxhall's motorsport boss, said: "This is a great position for us to be in and it really does prove the competitiveness of the Astra Coupe and the excellence of our drivers. They are all free to race as we know they are professional enough to do so cleanly and we don't anticipate any problems this weekend."

The drivers have promised to behave themselves on the International circuit and avoid a repeat of last year's clash between Muller and former team-mate Jason Plato. Thompson said: "This situation with the three of us will definitely add an even greater competitive edge to the racing this weekend, but we know what we are doing and will be using our heads."

Free practice takes place tomorrow (Saturday), with qualifying kicking off at 1210 (BST) on Sunday. The sprint race will start at 1210 on Monday, with the feature race getting under way at 1610. Keep up to date with the action via Autosport.com.
