Preview: Thommo wants title lead back

Works Vauxhall ace James Thompson will be gunning to take back the British Touring Car Championship points lead from Egg Sport rival Matt Neal as the series heads north to Croft this weekend

Neal knocked Thompson off the top with his sprint race victory and feature race third place at Mondello Park - but his advantage is just a slender single point. Frenhcman Yvan Muller is a further 19 points behind, but with 35 on offer over a race weekend, all three could theoretically emerge in front after Croft.

"It would be fantastic to regain the lead in front of my home crowd this weekend," said Thompson, who is looking forward to racing in his native Yorkshire once again this weekend. "I tend to go well at Croft and I always have lots of support from the crowd urging me on which is great. It's one of the best races of the year for atmosphere and I'm really looking forward to going back.

"I had a pretty difficuly start to the season. But that's racing! I've just got to keep the pressure on and do the best job I can at every opportunity - it's really too early to be thinking of the championship."

Tim Harvey and Aaron Slight are tied at the top of the Independents' Cup, while James Kaye holds a healthy 21-point lead in the Production class.
