Past greats to celebrate at Silverstone

A host of past British Touring Car Championship greats will be present at Silverstone for a triple celebration on August 31

A host of past British Touring Car Championship greats will be present at Silverstone for a triple celebration on August 31.

The circuit, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, will mark 50 years of the championship along with 80 years of the British Racing Drivers' Club - who own Silverstone, with a parade of legendary drivers in equally memorable machines.

Heading the line-up of former champions will be Jack Sears, who will be at the wheel of the Austin Westminster he drove to the inaugural BTCC title in 1958. Roy Pierpoint, Bill McGovern, Andy Rouse and Richard Longman will also be at Silverstone in a variety of machinery.

Joining the tin-top legends will be 1996 Formula One world champion Damon Hill, who raced in the series in 1989, and will be behind the wheel of a 1958 Riley 1.5, Jackie Oliver, Anthony Reid, Derek Warwick, Barrie 'Whizzo' Williams and Gordon Spice.

The total number of former BTCC champions at Silverstone is nine, boosted by the presences of Jason Plato, Matt Neal and Fabrizio Giovanardi in the showpiece event and Tim Harvey in the Porsche Carrera Cup.
