Muller: Thompson's tougher than Plato
BTCC points leader Yvan Muller says he's facing a tougher battle with team-mate James Thompson for the drivers' title this year than the one he had with Jason Plato last year - which he narrowly lost.
"I can feel James is back at his best level," said Muller after winning a qualifying fight with his Vauxhall Motorsport team-mate at Thruxton. "You can feel he's strong and he will be harder to beat than Plato. We're having a good fight on the track, but there's also a good atmosphere out of the car...at the moment."
Muller though does not expect this battle to become a personal one, like last year: "I think it will stay like this for the whole season," he added.
Thompson agrees with his French colleague: "At the end of the day neither of us believes that winning this championship will change our lives. It would be great, but the important thing is to be regarded as one of the quickest touring car drivers in the world."
