MG project on target for July test debut

West Surrey Racing boss Dick Bennetts has confirmed that the Lola-built MG ZS challenger, which will race in the last three rounds of the BTCC, is on schedule to turn a wheel for the first time at the end of July

The first chassis, built for the top BTC Touring class, is currently under construction at Lola and will be driven by last year's BTCC runner-up Anthony Reid and F3000 racer Warren Hughes.

Although the race car won't make its track debut until July, a show car featuring the 2001 livery - said to be "very distinctive" - will be revealed shortly. Its race debut will be at Silverstone on September 9.

"We'll get seven weeks of testing before our first race," said Bennetts. "Just like everyone in racing, we intend to be in a position to challenge for wins straightaway."

Bennetts, whose WSR outfit will run the cars, says the MG's livery will turn a few heads when it is revealed.

"When you see the colourscheme we've lined up, you'll see what I mean, but it's going to look sensational on the track," he said.
