MG pair full of optimism

Factory MG drivers Warren Hughes and Anthony Reid are fired with confidence for this weekend's British Touring Car Championship round at Mondello Park

The pair return to the tin-top series after an impressive showing for MG at the Le Mans 24 Hours last weekend. And with Hughes having taken his maiden BTCC win in the sprint race at Silverstone three weeks ago, both are hungry for more glory in Ireland.

Hughes said: "Obviously I'm enthusiastic and team spirit is very high off the back of Silverstone. Mondello is a circuit that should favour the MG so I'm really upbeat about racing there, especially as I don't have a weight penalty!

"Qualifying will be especially important as it is a tight, twisty circuit. I'm going to go for my second win of the season."

Reid and Hughes are fourth and joint fifth in the points respectively, and need good results from Mondello if they are to challenge Vauxhall's drivers for the championship.

Reid said: "A lot of encouragement was drawn from the weekend at Silverstone and clearly MG has stepped forward. We certainly have the chance of winning in Mondello, which is critical for the points as we reach the mid-season stage of the championship.

"Everyone is passionate about racing in Ireland so the atmosphere will be one to look forward to."
