MG logs first miles at Pembrey

MG's British Touring Car Championship challenger has undergone its first test at the Pembrey race circuit in Wales this week

Despite torrential rain on the first scheduled day of running on Wednesday, the West Surrey Racing team managed a full day on Thursday with the Lola-built ZS EX259 machine.

"For a brand new car out of the box, it's very encouraging," said WSR team boss Dick Bennetts. "This car is a Super Touring 'minus' than a Super Production 'plus', which is great - just where we wanted to be."

Chief engineer Frank Dernie commented: "We've achieved most of the things we set out to do. It was good to get some dry laps done in the car and on fresh tyres. We were able to look at the overall balance of the car and get a feel for it with baseline settings."

Driver Anthony Reid said: "Culturally it's a different car to what I've driven over the last few years, but it has all the ingredients of being a great race car. It is taut, responsive and consistent. I am really pleased."

The team is scheduled to make its BTCC at Silverstone on September 9, and will contest the last six rounds of the series.
