Alain Menu back to BTCC in place of Warren Scott at Team BMR

Double British Touring Car champion Alain Menu will return to the series this weekend at the wheel of a Team BMR VW CC, as predicted by Motorsport News

The Swiss driver will deputise for team owner Warren Scott, who broke two vertebrae in an accident at Silverstone 10 days ago.

Menu, 52, drove for the BMR squad in 2014 and took podiums at Rockingham and Silverstone.

This year he has been a driver coach for Scott and has been working with the team.

"It is unfortunate that this chance has come about because Warren is injured, but I am grateful to him for choosing me," said Menu.

"I have a close bond with the team and I have seen all the developments that have been put on the car so I am excited to try those.

"I will not get any testing before the event, so that will be tough, but Brands Hatch GP is one of my favourite tracks."

Menu will join Aron Smith and title chasers Jason Plato and Colin Turkington in the four-car line-up and says that he will do what he can to help the duo battling for the drivers' crown.

"I have not been directly asked to help but, if I am quick enough and I am near the front, then of course I will do what I need to in order to help Colin and Jason," he said.

"That is something we will tackle when it happens but for now, I am just delighted to be back."

Plato trails championship-leading Honda driver Gordon Shedden by 23 points going in to the last three races this weekend.

Northern Irishman Turkington is a further nine points adrift.
