'Aiello won't be beaten'- Menu

Former British Touring Car Champion Alain Menu believes Nissan star Laurent Aiello cannot be beaten to the 1999 title

The 1997 champion, now driving for Ford, won his title in crushingly dominant fashion and rarely had any consistent opposition. After qualifying 5th and 7th for this weekend's Donington races, he said that Aiello is in the same position in 1999.

'The Nissan Primera is the best package by far, they seem to have everything right,' Menu admitted. 'I can't see anyone stopping Laurent Aiello winning the title, simply because there is nobody who is
consistently challenging him. He won't be beaten.'

For his part, the Swiss driver believes that his Ford Mondeo is now quick enough to lead the 'division two' battle behind the Ray Mallock Ltd run Nissans.

'We're now one of the fastest teams behind the Nissan Primera, so we're
making progress, and we proved that at Oulton, where we finished third and
fourth,' he said

'We always do well in qualifying. The problem is finishing the
races. In ten races I've been punted off three times, I've had gearbox
problems three times, and I made a mistake once - so that's only three
finishes.'
