James Thompson became the first man to win two races in this season's British Touring Car Championship with an excellent drive to victory in race two at Donington Park.
The Team Dynamics Honda driver started from pole position by virtue of his race one victory, and led into the first corner from Rob Collard's Motorbase Performance BMW.
Collard though, was not to be a factor in the race as he was passed by Matt Neal into the Old Hairpin on lap four, but ran out onto the kerbs on the exit of the corner and, upon rejoining, was spun around by the second Vauxhall of Andrew Jordan.
Collard dropped to near the back of the pack as a result, with Harry Vaulkhard also losing ground as he went off in avoidance in his Tempus Sport Chevrolet, and Jordan himself retiring two corners later due to damage sustained in the contact.
Neal thus assumed second place and reduced the one-second gap to Thompson to just a car's length. Try as he did though, he could not get close enough to attempt a passing manoeuvre and settled for second place.
Third place went to the Vauxhall of defending champion Fabrizio Giovanardi, the Italian passing Jonathan Adam's Motorbase BMW for the position at the chicane on lap eight.
Adam then began to slip back to his eventual finishing position of seventh, as past him came the RML Chevrolets of Jason Plato and Mat Jackson as well as Colin Turkington's WSR BMW.
Turkington's result, achieved from 19th on the grid, ensured that he kept his second spot in the championship, albeit with an increased 22-point deficit to leader Neal.
Adam Jones finished eighth in his Clyde Valley Racing SEAT while Collard recovered to ninth by passing Dave Pinkney's Team Dynamics Honda on the last lap.
Vaulkhard also passed Pinkney on the final lap to clinch the final point and pole position for the reversed grid third race.
