BTCC Silverstone: Tom Ingram fastest in practice

Speedworks Motorsport driver Tom Ingram was the fastest driver across the two British Touring Car Championship practice sessions at an overcast Silverstone

Ingram jumped to the top of the times with less than two minutes of the second 40-minute session remaining, and improved again next time around to record a best lap of 58.967s in his Toyota Avensis.

That put him 0.167 seconds clear of the Eurotech Honda Civic Type R of Jack Goff, who finished second, in the only representative practice session after FP1 was held on a damp but drying surface.

Jake Hill was third fastest in his Team Hard Volkswagen CC, just 0.011s behind Goff, while the leading WSR BMW 125i M Sport of Rob Collard and Aiden Moffat (Laser Tools Racing Mercedes A-Class) completed the top five.

MG driver Josh Cook, who will be allowed to compete this weekend despite being at the centre of ongoing appeal process against a race ban, was sixth ahead of the Handy Motorsport Toyota Avensis of Rob Austin.

Andrew Jordan and Colin Turkington finished the session eighth and 10th respectively, sandwiching the Team BMR Subaru Levorg of Jason Plato.

Plato had earlier topped the morning's damp first practice session with a fastest time of 1m05.739s set right at the end of FP1.

The BTCC veteran's late effort sealed a BMR 1-2 in the session, with Plato displacing the sister Subaru of championship leader Ash Sutton - who was 23rd in the afternoon session - at the top of the pile.

Laptimes were, however, close to seven seconds slower than the fastest recorded in the second session despite a dry line emerging.

Mike Epps was third fastest in his Team Hard Volkswagen CC ahead of Senna Proctor and Brett Smith.

Smith was the fastest of the Hondas in the session, narrowly beating works driver Matt Neal, but went off at Becketts in FP2 and finished that session in 16th.

Championship hopeful Turkington slowed with an electrical issue and returned to the pits in the early part of first practice, but he was able to return to the track and completed 19 laps on his way to the 10th fastest time.

Rob Huff, who is returning to the BTCC for the first time in almost 13 years this weekend, was 25th in both sessions in his PMR Vauxhall Astra.
