BTCC Snetterton: Neal promoted 19 places on grid after Honda appeal
Matt Neal's fastest time from British Touring Car Championship qualifying at Snetterton has been reinstated after an appeal from Honda, promoting him 19 places on Sunday's opening race grid
Three-time BTCC champion Neal had recorded the third fastest time with 10 minutes of Saturday's half-hour qualifying session gone, but was deemed to have failed a ride height test on his return to the pits and subsequently had his times deleted.
With his car raised, Neal returned to the track before the end of the session but could only manage the 23rd fastest time.
Neal's Team Dynamics-run Honda outfit appealed the ride height decision after the session, on the basis that a non-official had assisted with weighing and ride height checking process.
BTCC rules stipulate that only registered officials and scrutineers can enter the weighing area.
The appeal was therefore upheld, reinstating Neal's fastest times from his first stint and promoting him to fourth on the grid for race one.
Neal's elevation demotes team-mate and championship leader Gordon Shedden to 21st.
