BTCC test for top two Formula Ford drivers in 2013

The top two finishers in next year's British Formula Ford championship will win a British Touring Car test with leading team Motorbase Performance

Formula Ford will move onto the BTCC support bill next season, with a slicks-and-wings version of its current EcoBoost-engined single-seater.

Motorbase boss David Bartrum, whose team runs Ford Focus cars in the BTCC, will allow the top two drivers at the end of that season to share a day's testing in one of his NGTC machines.

Bartrum said: "You have only to look at the list of champions from Formula Ford who have gone on to stellar success in other forms of motorsport to understand what a superb training ground it is.

"I'm sure that the test will be a popular incentive for competitors."

The prize comes courtesy of a tie up with Dunlop, which supplies tyres to Formula Ford and the BTCC.

Dunlop motorsport manager Gary Wassell said: "It will be very interesting for everyone, not least the drivers, to see how well and how quickly two young single-seater racers can adapt to the very different environment of a BTCC car.

"Dunlop is very pleased to have been able to work together with Motorbase Performance to offer this prize, which I am sure will be a very attractive one for prospective competitors."

Ford Racing motorsport manager Mike Norton added: "Generations of young drivers have learned their craft in Formula Ford and have gone on to success not only in Formula 1 but also in IndyCars, sportscars and touring cars.

"This prize drive is a great opportunity for next year's champion and vice-champion to learn some vital track skills and to make their mark in a BTCC car."
