Carl Boardley targets BTCC move, will test with Speedworks

Multiple hot rod champion Carl Boardley is targeting a move to the British Touring Car Championship in 2013 and will test with Speedworks Motorsport this week

The 36-year-old, who is a four-time hot rod world champion, will drive a Speedworks-run NGTC Toyota Avensis at Snetterton on Friday as he targets a switch.

"Our aim of getting on the 2013 BTCC grid is a serious one," said Boardley, who is also a race winner in the British Pickup Truck Racing series.

"Speedworks have been extremely helpful in discussing my options for next year and we are already in talks with some major companies to get our budget together.

"The chance to work with a professional team is something we are all extremely excited about."

Speedworks boss Christian Dick, who ran Adam Morgan and Tony Hughes in the BTCC this year, said: "I'm really interested to see how Carl's short oval skills transfer.

"To be a four-time champion he's obviously a dedicated and focused driver. He could be a bit of a surprise."

Speedworks has already recently tested Dave Newsham and Lea Wood as it assesses its options for 2013.

BTCC race winner Paul O'Neill is expected to fill one of its race seats.
