Testing: Giovanardi leads the way

Reigning FIA European Touring Car Champion Fabrizio Giovanardi was fastest in the final test session on Thursday ahead of this weekend's season-opener at Magny-Cours in France

The Nordauto Alfa Romeo ace was just 0.036s quicker than Paolo Ruberti's AGS-run 156, with Giovanardi's team-mate Larini third fastest. The quickest of the BMWs was Fredrik Ekblom's Team Belgium car, who just pipped the Carly Motorsport 320i of Peter Kox for fourth.

As expected, Alfa and BMW dominated the top 10, with Rickard Rydell the fastest Volvo S60 in 11th place, with team-mate James Hanson languishing a couple of seconds off the pace. Tommy Rustad was 13th fastest in the sole Nissan Primera.

Neither of CiBiEmme's Super Production spec Hondas tested on Thursday, but are expected to qualify on Saturday.

The opening rounds of the ETCC are held on Sunday.
