Tarquini fastest in final practice
SEAT's Gabriele Tarquini emerged fastest from the final WTCC practice session at Imola ahead of qualifying this afternoon
Tarquini posted a 1:54.990s lap in his Leon TDi to edge out teammate Rickard Rydell by 0.275s.
James Thompson proved that his performance in the earlier session was no fluke by going third-fastest in the N.Technology Honda, the Yorkshireman finishing up just ahead of the independent SEAT of Pierre-Yves Corthals.
The fastest of the Chevrolet drivers was Rob Huff in fifth, with Augusto Farfus carrying the banner for BMW in sixth.
It was a low-key start to the weekend for both of Tarquini's main title rivals. SEAT's Yvan Muller and BMW's world champion Andy Priaulx found themselves around 1.2s shy of the pace set by the leaders and finished the session 14th and 15th respectively.
