Priaulx targets win to end title run
Andy Priaulx says that he's aiming to finish his final race as WTCC world champion on the best possible note after a thrilling last-gasp qualifying lap put him on the front row for Sunday's first race at Macau
The BMW Team UK driver was facing the prospect of starting from outside the top ten until he latched on to the back of eventual polesitter Alain Menu's Chevrolet and took advantage of the slipstream to shoot up to second place.
Priaulx said that, while he was disappointed to no longer be in contention for a fourth-consecutive championship, he is still looking for a strong result in Sunday's races.
"It's nice to come here with no pressure, for a change," he said. "I want to finish the season as well as possible and sometimes in my career it has all been about a win. That win would be very important to me on Sunday, if possible.
"With Alain's speed, it's going to be hard. I think it's a dangerous game to have any expectations, but as long as I drive well and finish the races, I'll be very happy with myself.
"I'll try to finish the season on a high note. When I see the chequered flag for the race on Sunday, that's when next year begins."
