Priaulx not focusing on rivals

World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx insists he cannot waste any effort worrying about how his rivals are doing at Macau this weekend ahead of another title showdown

Priaulx is one of nine drivers able to win the championship in the finale, although his previous success at the venue has left him one of the clear favourites to triumph. The BMW driver won the title in Macau last year.

But with so many drivers able to emerge on top, Priaulx thinks the only approach he can have is to focus solely on what he is doing.

"I have looked at the different possible outcomes and there are four million possible connotations," Priaulx told autosport.com. "So all I can do is simplify it and look at myself. So I am not really thinking of anything else other than myself and how I can do the best job possible.

"But I am really positive. I feel really prepared and I am really up for it."

Priaulx, whose WTCC success last year came after capturing the European Touring Car Championship in 2005, believes a third crown would mean more to him than his earlier achievements.

"Every year it means more to me than the year before," he said. "It is weird. What made me really happy last year was not that I was a 'world champion' but the fact that I had done two titles in a row. Then you cannot say it is a fluke.

"To do three in a row, especially with reverse grids and ballast where everything is designed to hold you back, I am pretty proud of that.

"I have got nothing to prove...I have just got my own ego to massage! I just want to do another one. I have got more motivation than ever before; I don't know where it is coming from.

"A lot of people are saying: 'Are you going to move on? What are you doing next?' Well, there is not a lot better to do than this outside of F1 or Le Mans."

Priaulx thinks that the first pointers towards the outcome of the title fight will not emerge until qualifying - especially with rain showers forecast for the weekend.

"It could be raining, then drying mid-session and maybe somebody doesn't get their lap in. It sounds to me like this weekend is not going to be predictable."
