Menu urges Chevy to keep pushing

Alain Menu has called on his Chevrolet team to build on the manufacturer's maiden victory in the World Touring Car Championship, and be in a title contending position in 2007

Menu secure the Chevy's first ever WTCC victory at Brands Hatch after a mistake from leader and reigning champion Andy Priaulx allowed him to inherit the lead. The Swede then pulled away from Rickard Rydell's SEAT Leon to take a historic first victory.

Now Menu hopes that the Ray Mallock-prepared squad can be a force to be reckoned with next season.

"I'm sure we are going to try everything to get more wins," Menu told autosport.com. "The main thing is we keep improving and that we are ready for next year to fight for the championship.

"For Chevrolet this win means a lot. When you decide to participate in such a big championship, and such a competitive championship, the idea is to win and we don't have the pace of the front running cars.

"We still have a lot of work to do but today it played into our hands. The car was good in the wet and I drove it very well but we still have quite a bit on our plate."

Menu last won a race at Brands Hatch on his way to his second British Touring Car Championship title in 2000.

"I have had a lot of wins in the past at Brands Hatch but I think this one is probably the best," he added. "I haven't had any success in touring cars here since 2000 and I guess this is why this win means a lot.

"I didn't know how quick I would be in the race but I had to make sure I wasn't going to make any mistakes and still drive fairly fast. It was tricky because I did quite a bit of aquaplaning but it was also easier when you are the leading car because you see what is happening. I'm quite happy being at the front leading races."
