Huff looking for first WTCC win

Robert Huff believes that he can win his first World Touring Car Championship race at Brands Hatch tomorrow if it rains, as currently forecasted

Huff scored his best WTCC qualifying result yet with third place in this afternoon's part-wet qualifying session, and believes that the wet weather potential of his Chevrolet Lacetti means he could give the British fans a home victory tomorrow.

Huff's previous best finish in the WTCC was sixth in last year's first Mexican race at Puebla.

"If it is wet as it was when we first started the session or if it is seriously wet, we have a very good chance of winning here," Huff told autosport.com.

"We are nowhere in the championship so there is no point trying to just go for points. We are going to go all out for wins. I'm going to give it absolutely everything and we will see what the outcome of that is tomorrow.

"If it is dry it is going to be hard work [for the win]. If I can survive the first lap then certainly I can do something with it and the race pace of the Chevy is really good. The last five or six laps the car seems to hold its pace well where everyone else seems to drop off quite a lot.

"If we can get round the first corner and the first lap still in third place we can certainly work with it for a podium. If it is wet we can go better."

Huff could have qualified even higher this afternoon if it wasn't for a 90mph crash at Westfield on his final lap, when he was in with a chance of challenging pole-sitter Rickard Rydell's fastest time.

"I took a little bit of a knock on the head but nothing too serious," he added. "It was a big hit and we had an in car camera and whoever saw that would have realised how hard it was. We were going at about 90 mph at the corner and when you hit the grass you tend to speed up.

"I just put a wheel on the wet kerb and it flicked round. The damage is not as bad as it looks and it is pretty cosmetic.

"I've had some seriously big accidents in this team while they have been running me and I'm confident that the boys can get everything sorted for tomorrow. If there is anyone in the pit lane who can fix it Ray Mallock Limited can for sure."
